Genres are damaged. Damaged, I argue, past restore. We have to crumple them up and throw all of them away.

Genres at all times have been damaged, after all. They’re, as with every different type of human-invented categorization, arbitrary. The notion of labeling any particular sport as one “kind” is inherently nonsensical, all artwork present on an infinite spectrum, the boundaries of labels drawn totally subjectively. That’s been the case ceaselessly, and it’s notable that about 15 years in the past there have been rising calls to desert style titles altogether as they felt so needlessly restrictive and complicated. – John Walker Learn Extra
